Note: This is an extract from my build thread explaining how to remove the rear subframe from a mini. Added in here for other member's reference

I had another couple of hours in the garage tonight, and I removed the rear subframe. It was actually really easy, it only took me about 45 minutes. To be fair, I've soaked all the nuts / bolts in penetrating oil over the past couple of weeks and I also undid the bolts a quarter turn whilst I had my sills off to make sure I didn't have any problems.

I've taken enough pics here to create a narrative for anybody else wanting to do the same...

Firstly, jack up the car from the rear subframe and support the shell using axle stands (and blocks of wood to spread the weight to avoid damaging the floor)

Undo the two bolts for the shock absorbers (on the back wheelarches)

Undo the 4 bolts inside the boot

I found it useful to use a pair of molegrips on the bottom of the bolts to stop them from spinning...

Then use a trolley jack to take the weight of the subframe...

And loosen the 4 bolts which secure the subframe adjacent the sills

Subframe can then be lowered using the trolley jack. Check out the damage at the back of the subframe - it should straightenout okay though. The mounting points are unaffected.

And this is the hole where the battery cable used to enter - will need to be cut out a bit and a plate welded in, then a new hole cut for a cable gland.
